Acupuncture Lower Back Pain   by Adam

Acupuncture has been gaining popularity in the world as an effective relief for pain in the back. Of all kinds of pain, Lower Back pain has been the most common area affected in humans. And it is certainly reasonable to say that all people can experience pain in their lower back at least once in their lives. Before we find an answer on how acupuncture can help in relieving this kind of pain, let us first understand what acupuncture is.
Acupuncture Lower Back Pain
What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is a kind of Chinese medical treatment where needles are inserted into different spots on the body. This treatment follows the principle of adjusting the flow of an energy called as "Qi" in areas that can help regulate the body's function. According to researches, acupuncture is not only an effective relief for painful backs but also for treating different disorders.
Acupuncture Lower Back Pain Relief
Why consider this kind of relief? One of the most common treatments when it comes to Lower Back Pain is by taking over-the-counter drugs or NSAIDS. But, the use of these medications can cause various side effects like constipation, nausea, ulcers and a lot. Yes, these medications may help just by providing temporary Pain Relief.
A painful back can be acute or chronic. Acute is caused by either injury or improper posture that causes the blood and the "Qi" to be stagnant thus blocking the flow of energy and blood in the lower back resulting to pain. Acupuncture can support the healing process of the body while helping in decreasing pain as well.
Acupuncture Lower Back Pain Procedure
What is the procedure? When you first visit an acupuncture center or acupuncturist, the first thing that they will do is to make a diagnosis basing on the principles and symptoms that you are experiencing. This diagnosis will include taking your health history, performing physical examinations, and asking you questions that they will need for your treatment plan.
The kind of acupuncture to be performed is based on your symptoms. Acupuncturist may perform either a local or distant treatment. What is the difference of these two? A local acupuncture treatment involves the use of needles inserted in the specific area where you tend to feel pain. These needles are so thin that it can only cause mild discomfort when inserted. While some, could not feel any pain at all.
When the acupuncturist would choose to perform a distal method of acupuncture, the needles are inserted not on the exact site but on other locations on the body. Our body has different acu-points or pressure points that travel on our lower back. The needles are then inserted in these points on the lower back which affects the flow of energy. The distal acupuncture treatment has more advantages as compared to the local treatment. Acupuncture is recognized to be a safe treatment for lower back pain when done by a competent and certified acupuncturist. Possible side effects and complications may happen like soreness, infection and bleeding when not done correctly.
Acupuncture is not a cure and is not for everyone. Remember that every person is different and the way each person responds to pain is different. If you are still experiencing lower back pain after this kind of treatment, then this pain relief method may not be for you. But if you are still looking for a pain relief method, go to your doctor first and he may refer you to a certified acupuncturist.
