Easing Lower Back Pain In Early Pregnancy   by Erik Smith

Lower Back pain in early pregnancy can be a mild annoyance for some women and a debilitating problem for others. It is largely normal to experience some pain in pregnancy. As the abdomen shifts and the uterus enlarges, a woman's center of gravity will change. This weakens the muscles of the abdomen and puts extra pressure on the back, especially with the weight gain associated with pregnancy. Pain can be a significant problem for many pregnant women, and can make a woman feel more tired and less mentally capable of handling her pregnancy.

Women who have been pregnant before and experienced discomfort are more likely to experience pain in subsequent pregnancies. Generally, women who are sedentary experience worse pain than women who remain active throughout their pregnancy, and women with low muscle tone or weakness before pregnancy may experience worse symptoms during pregnancy. Being pregnant with multiples can cause more severe back pain as well. Throughout the duration of a pregnancy, the weight gain associated with being gravid can cause muscles supporting the back and abdomen to weaken due to forced changes in posture. Often nerves will be pinched due to shifts in the center of gravity, which can exacerbate back pain.

One of the easiest ways to relieve back pain is to boost your activity level and begin exercising on a regular basis. Pain medications can be sought out for the worse pain, but during pregnancy most medications should be used sparingly and only if necessary. When pain can be managed holistically, medication can be avoided for the benefit of the pregnancy. Practicing good posture can help relieve stress on the back, and changing positions while stopping to sit frequently can help alleviate pain, especially if it is caused by a pinched or stressed nerve.

A woman can do a lot to ensure that her pregnancy is not too complicated by pains and aches. A good way to control Lower Back Pain in early pregnancy is to ensure you rest frequently and get enough sleep throughout the duration of the pregnancy. Taking precautions to remain as active as the pregnancy will allow you to be, and remaining aware of your posture can help to ease pain or prevent it before it starts. Even when preexisting factors cause a woman to be predisposed to Lower Back Pain during her pregnancy, it can be managed in nearly every case.
