Arthritis Diet Is Best Arthritis Pain Reliever   by Ruel Hinaloc

People who suffer from arthritis are always looking for ways to relieve the pain. One way to alleviate or even prevent it is through an arthritis diet. There is some arthritis diets that some people swear, but have never been proven to cause a change. There are some diets that make a definite difference according to health experts.

First let's take a look at some arthritis diets where there is little or no evidence that really makes a difference. One of the diets of most common arthritis diets is to eliminate potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers. While diet will not hurt, has not been proven to reduce arthritis pain. Another arthritis diet aims to reduce acid in the body by eliminating sugar, coffee, red meat, most grains, nuts, and citrus fruits. It is intended to be followed for only a month. People may feel better and lose weight to reduce pressure on their joints, but again there is no evidence to support this.

It also excludes many sources of vitamin C is essential in the fight against arthritis. Drinking green tea has been shown to reduce the effects of rheumatoid arthritis in mice, but no conclusive results on human studies yet. Shark cartilage is supposed to relieve arthritis. Animal studies and laboratory are promising, but no human studies to support this yet.

Let's take a look at some arthritis diets that have proven to work. Switching fats can reduce inflammation. Eating fats found in red meat, and poultry has been shown to increase inflammation. Switching to cold water fish may help reduce inflammation. Using corn, safflower and sunflower also helps. Another arthritis diet is the ASU (avocado-soybean unsaponifiables). It has been shown to relieve osteoarthritis, stimulate cartilage repair, and reduce the need for a patient to NSAIDs for pain control. Ginger has been shown to relieve pain and inflammation, as well as protect the stomach from gastrointestinal effects from taking NSAIDs. Glucosamine is a supplement that relieves pain in some patients with osteoarthritis.

It helps the body rebuild cartilage, but can take up to two months to see the effects. If you are allergic to shellfish, consult your doctor before taking this as derived from crab, lobster or shrimp shells. Before taking any supplements talk with your doctor as some may interfere with or worsen side effects of your medication.

Of course the best arthritis diet is a good well balanced diet. Eat 5 to nine servings of fruits and vegetables, and reduce eating with fats and cholesterol. A heart-healthy diet is especially important for patients with rheumatoid arthritis as studies have shown a relationship between this disease and heart failure. Vitamin C is good for repairing body tissues. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium, increase bone mass and prevent bone loss.

Calcium helps build strong bones. If you are taking medication, consult your doctor if he or she suggests taking vitamins. Some medications can create deficiencies of vitamins or minerals. When choosing your arthritis diet, be sure to talk with your doctor as different types of arthritis have different needs.
